EP 009 Harper Poe: Be Active, Embrace Diversity, and Keep at It
On today’s episode, Stoked Steve interviews Harper Poe. Harper is the founder of Proud Mary, a global textile company that offers handcrafted accessories and clothing. Tune in as she shares how a habitat and humanity trip in Chile inspired her to start a company.
“Just trying different things is how you learn what you like.” -Harper Poe
Harper and Stoked Steve have known each other since 2005. Harper served as a mentor in Steve’s first skateboard mentoring program.
She currently lives in South Carolina, where she’s busy working for Proud Mary. Her company is set to making a difference by providing jobs for artisans and the marginalized.
Harper heard about Stoked after a race in Central Park. She has been snowboarding for years, and wanted a community like the one she had in the mountain town she’s from. She’s been active since high school, and Stoked was just what she wanted.
She studied construction management in college. Shortly after her graduation, Harper traveled in different places. Her first real job was interior design in Los Angeles.
Eventually, she moved to New York and worked for a furniture company. By 2006, she worked for another residential builder.
She wanted some time off, and so stayed in Chile for a month doing volunteer work. The experience she had inspired her to start Proud Mary.
